A Holiday Poem
The holidays each year should be filled with good cheer,
And time that’s well spent with the ones you hold dear.
Yet lately it seems the holidays have become,
A nuisance to society and I think it’s dumb.
Is it just me or have you seen all the stiffs,
Complaining about a fat guy who flies round giving gifts.
And why be angry about religious pieces,
Let your neighbor put out a statue of Jesus.
Or if Hanukkah is your holiday of choice,
Then put out your Menorah, sit back, and rejoice.
I promise that I won’t drag you to court,
Decorate your way, I’ll be a good sport.
And I promise that I will not go and scorch,
A Kwanzaa bush that may be on your porch.
For the Ramadan holiday of the Islam,
You sing your Eid and I’ll sing my Psalms.
Here is a question for all you out there,
Who ruin the holidays and do not despair.
Why take the time to desecrate a Nativity?
You’re just crushing people’s fun and their festivity.
Is that really how you want to be seen?
As a modern day Scrooge, all nasty and mean?
Or maybe it makes you feel like a man,
To steal Baby Jesus and leave your beer can.
Why can’t we all leave each other alone,
And celebrate the holidays in a way of our own?
Why take your neighbor in front of a judge,
Causing a rift and an eternal grudge?
Isn’t that what America’s supposed to be about?
Having the freedom to sing and to shout?
To put out your Rudolph with holiday cheer,
Not worried about someone beheading your deer?
Or to let your decorations light up the night,
Without hiring a lawyer in case of a fight?
If this poem offends you, feel free to share,
With somebody else because I really don’t care.
You can feel or say anything you want about me,
Just leave alone my Santa and my Christmas Tree.
